"Comparing households" bar chart graphic shows a Typical suburban single-family home with three cars averaging 20 MPG driving 31,000 mile a year produces 399 Million British Thermal Units (MBTUs) per year. In contrast, an urban household in a condo with one car averaging 20 MPG and driving 10,000 miles a year produces about 151 MBTUs per year, which is about as third as much as the three-car suburban household. A green urban household in an energy-efficient household with one car averaging 30 MPG meanwhile produces approximately 103 MBTUs, just a fourth of the three-car suburban household.
