If you care about urbanism, here’s a rundown of how you can get involved and make a difference this week:

  • The most important thing you can do this week is VOTE! You can read our endorsements here.
  • Comment on Seattle’s ADU/DADU EIS: The public comment period for changes to Accessory Dwelling Units and Detached Accessory Dwelling Units regulation was extended. We wrote about why the city needs to do an EIS and more recently covered an effort by group to expand the impact of the EIS.
  • Join A Design Review Board: Design review can have a big impact on how long it takes projects to be built and the ultimate quality of our built environment. We recently wrote a little bit about the process problem and the approved reform package. You can download an application to join here and read about the program here.
  • Comprehensive Plan Feedback: Due to proposed changes under the Mandatory Housing Affordability program, the city is taking feedback on proposed changes to the comprehensive plan. The current comprehensive plan restricts the variety of housing in many neighborhoods. Your comments can ask that the comprehensive plan includes more housing variety in all neighborhoods.
  • 2018 City Budget: Two public hearings on Seattle’s 2018 budget have now passed, but there are still several issues up in the air regarding this year’s budget, including a proposed reinstatement of the employee hours tax on businesses grossing over $5 million. Make your voice heard by emailing your council member.

If there are actions or events you’d like us to highlight in our weekly roundup, let us know by email at info(at)theurbanist.org.
