The Urbanist Podcast is back after a hiatus, just in time to break down 2025 election results. In this episode, Urbanist publisher Doug Trumm and reporter Amy Sundberg discuss what happened in Seattle and other interesting races across the region, including Tacoma, Bellevue, Kirkland, a progressive sweep in Burien, and a new King County Executive.

Despite trailing by seven points in the first drop of results, Urbanist-endorsed challenger Katie Wilson pulled off a comeback in late returns to win the Seattle Mayor race. Amy and Doug discuss how Wilson was able to defeat an entrenched and well-funded incumbent, and why this race was closer than other Seattle contests, where progressives otherwise dominated by wide margins this year.

All around, it was a triumphant election for most of The Urbanist’s endorsed candidates, from Everett to Tacoma.

We aim to drop a new podcast every few weeks to recap our biggest headlines and peek ahead to stories on the horizon. Episodes will also air on KVRU 105.7 FM in Seattle. Our typical slot is 4pm Thursday. A big thanks to Crystal Fincher and Shannon Cheng of KVRU for their help getting this podcast off the ground.
