January Urbanist Meetup with Tiffani McCoy of I-135 House Our Neighbors Campaign

Our January speaker series guest is Tiffani McCoy, who is advocacy director of Real Change, a nonprofit that advocates for economic, social, and racial justice, and leads the House Our Neighbors coalition which is running Initiative 135 to establish a public developer of social housing in Seattle. The campaign met the signature-gathering threshold in August, which means I-135 will be on the Seattle ballot in a special election in February.

McCoy will break down the benefits of social housing and a public developer to build it, as well as lessons learned in the campaign. We’ll discuss the homelessness crisis and the best ways to address it. With its street vendor program and advocacy, Real Change is dedicated to empowering people who have experienced homelessness.
