Sunday Video: 360 Degree View Of The SR-99 Tunnel

by Stephen Fesler @safesler on March 12, 2017

Love it or hate it, the SR-99 tunnel project is rapidly coming to completion after some traumatic fits and starts. Bertha, the sole tunnel boring machine for the project, is two blocks from its exit point in Lower Queen Anne. In a unique inside look, the Washington State Department of Transportation gives a 360 degree view of the machine at work and the tunnel behind it under construction.

Looks like a sizable helping of Corvus brachyrhynchos is being heated for all the confident naysayers. I’m hoping that the first vehicle through the tunnel is a Metro or Sound Transit express bus from somewhere southwest to South Lake Union.

The Urbanist was founded in early 2014 in order to examine and influence urban policies. We believe cities provide unique opportunities for addressing many of the most challenging social, environmental, and economic problems. We serve as a resource for promoting and disseminating ideas, creating community, increasing political participation, and improving the places we live.

Join us each month in Downtown Seattle for a social gathering to talk about urban issues and hear from local thought leaders.

When: Second Tuesday / 5.30pm - 7.30pm
Where: Elephant & Castle / 1415 Fifth Avenue, Seattle
