  1. Probably missed by most but you can see many people using the “OV-fiets” (blue with yellow bikes). Translated something like transit bikes. This program comes maybe closest to the bike sharing you see in Seattle. Aimed at “normal” people, by that I mean not tourists, who need a last mile transport from the train station. It costs about 3 euro and for that amount you can use it for a full day. The subscription is free and you get billed afterwards. Picking one up costs less then a minute. You only need to register once.

  2. Thanks for finding and sharing. If only Seattle urban bikers would ride like this — all traveling at a safe, moderate speed; no one training for the STP (and no spandex)

    • Trust me. There are plenty of Dutch MAMILs. More importantly, if only Seattle had an expansive, safe, and comfortable bicycle network, many could benefit from facilities like this and share in that culture.

      • I trust you are correct — but they aren’t riding on city routes like the one shown, routes used by ordinary people to get from their Point A to their Point B.

        • That’s a bizzare conclusion to arrive at. Of course they do, they have to get home or wherever they’re going somehow. Stop obfuscating the problem here: the severe and near total lack of quality bike facilities in the Puget Sound.

          • I’m sorry I didn’t make my point more clearly. If more bicyclists rode like the Europeans shown in this video, I believe there would be more political support for more and better bike facilities. Not to mention more bike riders overall.
