The Urbanist is focusing much of our upcoming events programming on getting our endorsed candidates elected. In the coming month, we are hosting panels, canvasses, volunteer trainings, and some social events.

Things are heating up across races, especially Seattle, and the general election is rapidly approaching. Seattleites who haven’t used their democracy vouchers yet should make sure to do so. Come join The Urbanist for some volunteer events to help propel endorsed candidates to victory.

September 28th Seattle Bike Scavenger Hunt

  • What: Come explore the city on a scavenger hunt! Come alone or with friends, we’ll sort you into teams, and the winners get Urbanist beanies! We’ll begin at Judkins Park and end at 4pm at the Burke-Gilman Brewing Company.

October 4th Urbanist North Sound Campaign Volunteer Training  

  • What: Join The Urbanist and Urbanist Shoreline for a social gathering and campaign volunteer training. Learn the anatomy of a local political campaign, here about messaging from some endorsed candidates, and learn the ropes on how to get involved on a campaigns and local politics in general.

October 11th Bellevue City Council Candidate Panel

  • What: Come see Bellevue City Council candidates answer questions about the future of the city on topics like housing, transportation, and equity on October 11th! Panelists will be split up into 30 minute chunks separated by which position they are running for.
  • Who: This panel is being co-hosted by Complete Streets Bellevue, The Urbanist, Eastside for All, Transportation Choices Coalition, Africans on the Eastside, Eastside Urbanism, and Cascade Bicycle Club.

October 19th Rally and Doorknocking with Urbanist Endorsed Candidates

  • What: Join The Urbanist and Tech4Housing for a rally and canvass for The Urbanist’s endorsed Seattle candidates, include:

September 28th Katie Wilson for an Affordable Seattle Fundraiser (Seattle for Katie)

  • What: A fundraiser for Seattle for Katie, the political action committee (PAC) that is trying to get Katie Wilson elected in November. This is not a campaign event, and is organized independently of Katie Wilson’s campaign.

October 2nd Community Assembly with Jamie Pedersen (350 Seattle)

  • What: Did you know that the the University of Washington (UW) has a gas plant on its Seattle campus that is one of the largest polluters in Seattle? There are plans to get UW off fossil fuels, bring cooling to everyone on campus and create hundred of green union jobs – but without funding, these plans are stuck on paper. Join us for a community assembly with Washington State Senate Majority Leader Jamie Pedersen, who represents UW’s district and will play a key role in determining if this critical project becomes a reality. Few people in Washington have more influence over how state funds are spent.
