Transit youtuber Thom from Trains Are Awesome did a video on Sound Transit's big 2 Line crosslake connection opening. He reviews the new stations, discusses why Seattle's light rail network is remarkable for its fast expansion after a series of false starts, and dives into a primer on the groundbreaking technology that allows trains to cross deep-bottomed Lake Washington on a floating bridge, the first train line to do that anywhere in the world.
Thom rode the line on the first Monday of service, just a couple days after the 2 Line's March 28 launch, when stations were much more crowded for the opening festivities. In fact, Sound Transit announced it was the agency's second busiest day ever, with more than 200,000 light rail riders. This footage is from more of a normal day, but ridership was still holding pretty strong.
