In 2019, Amsterdam put out an ambitious plan to expand car-lite streets (or autoluw in Dutch). Jason Slaughter of Not Just Bikes highlights how the plan has been realized since. The plan has included the removal of car lanes and more than 10,000 on-street parking spaces. This has facilitated a remarkable transformation across the city by unleashing modal filters to calm streets and handing over car space to bike paths, parks and green spaces, and other people spaces. Now the city is targeting removal of another 10,000 on-street parking spaces by 2030.
