Sunday Video: Pierce Transit Goes to the Ballot

Doug Trumm - October 11, 2026
Prop 1, on Pierce County ballots November 3, would increase the dedicated sales tax for transit across the service area by 0.3% in order to boost local bus frequency and span of service. (Pierce Transit)

Pierce County voters have a big decision to make this November. Bus funding is on the ballot, with Pierce Transit seeking a 50% boost in funding that would boost local bus service by more than 40% by the early 2030s. Tacoma transit advocate Cameron Johnson breaks down what the measure entails and what it could mean for bus service across Pierce County.

Last month, transit advocates kicked off the Keep Pierce Moving campaign, hoping to make 2026 the year that Pierce County voters finally vote to give their transit agency the resources that it needs to scale up and meet the need for increased mobility across some of the state's fastest-growing areas.

β€˜Keep Pierce Moving’ Campaign Touts Major Bus Service Expansion Plan
Pierce County transit advocates are confident that this is the year they can overcome the history of voters not getting on board with adding bus service funding in the South Sound. If Prop 1 is successful, Pierce Transit plans to ramp up service by 49% in the coming years.
